Madre：
Madreを知ったきっかけは何でしたか？
N様（お施主様）：
建築家の清水直子さんとは昔から親しくて。彼女と話す中で“Madreさん良いよ”って聞いてたんです。で、ある日、モダンリビングを見てたら『あ、これMadreのキッチンだ！』って。山根さんも載ってて。
Madre山根（以下山根）：
逗子のお客様の事例でしたよね。あの号はすごく反響ありました。
N様：
まさにそれが最後のひと押しになりました。電話して、ショールームに伺ったのが始まりでした。
Discovered in a Magazine: That Kitchen Maker
Madre:
How did you first come to know about Madre?
Mrs. N (Client):
I’ve been close with the architect Ms. Naoko Shimizu for a long time. In conversations with her, she mentioned, “Madre is really excellent.” Then one day, while reading Modern Living, I suddenly thought, “Oh, this is a Madre kitchen!” Mr. Yamane was featured in the article as well.
Yamane (Madre):
Yes, that was the project in Zushi. That particular issue received a tremendous response.
Mrs. N:
Exactly—that became the final push. I called right away, and visiting the showroom was where it all began.
「キッチンを作るために家を建てました」
Madre：
当初、キッチンにはどんなイメージをお持ちでしたか？
N様：
うちはね、家よりもキッチンが先なんです。夫が料理好きで、“自分のキッチンが欲しい”って。20歳の頃からずっと料理をしてきた人なので。
山根：
そうそう、ご主人と初めてお会いしたときから熱量がすごかったです（笑）
N様：
マンションのときもオーダーキッチンを入れてて、今回は“さらに理想を”ってことで。だから家づくりの最初から“キッチンは別予算で、専門会社で”と決めていました。そこがNGな工務店とは契約しませんと最初に言ってました。
Madre：
それだけ明確にされていたんですね。
N様：
そう。だから建築ハウスメーカー選び、工務店選びの時から、最初に“キッチンはオーダーキッチンにする”というのは確定事項でした。
“We Built Our Home for the Kitchen”
Madre:
At the very beginning, what kind of image did you have for your kitchen?
Mrs. N:
For us, the kitchen came before the house itself. My husband loves cooking and always said, “I want my own kitchen.” He has been cooking since his twenties, so it was a lifelong passion.
Yamane:
Yes, absolutely. From the very first time I met him, I could feel his incredible enthusiasm. (laughs)
Mrs. N:
Even in our former apartment, we had installed a custom kitchen. This time, it was about pursuing something even closer to our ideal. From the very start of the house project, we had decided, “The kitchen budget will be separate, and handled by a specialist company.” We even told builders upfront that if they couldn’t accept that, we wouldn’t sign with them.
Madre:
So it was clearly defined from the beginning.
Mrs. N:
Exactly. From the moment we began choosing a builder or construction company, it was already a given that the kitchen would be an order-made kitchen.
決め手になったラフスケッチ
N様：
正直、最初はなかなかピンとくるデザインに出会えなくて。Madreさんともう一社とで並行して検討してたんですけど、“これ！”という決定打がなくて…
山根：
ちょうどその頃、舞浜のホテルに泊まったときに、“これだ！”とひらめいたんです。
N様：
で、打ち合わせの時に突然、“私、ひらめいちゃったの！”って（笑）
山根：
急いでラフを描いて見せたら、“それ、それ！”ってすぐ決まりましたよね。
N様：
そうそう。まさにその瞬間に心が決まりました。
Madre：
それまで重ねていた打ち合わせがあったからこそ、ひらめきに辿り着いたんですね。
The Rough Sketch That Sealed the Decision
Mrs. N:
To be honest, at first I couldn’t quite find a design that truly resonated with me. We were considering Madre alongside another company, but there was nothing that felt like “this is it.”
Yamane:
Around that time, I happened to stay at a hotel in Maihama, and suddenly it struck me—“This is it!”
Mrs. N:
So during our next meeting, I suddenly said, “I’ve had a revelation!” (laughs)
Yamane:
I quickly sketched a rough idea and showed it to her, and she immediately said, “That’s it!” The decision was made right then and there.
Mrs. N:
Exactly. At that very moment, my heart was set.
Madre:
It was precisely because of all the prior discussions that you were able to arrive at that inspiration.
ご主人がこだわった、料理を楽しむためのディテール
Madre：
ご主人のこだわりがすごく反映されていますよね。
N様：
ええ。機器はすべてGAGGENAUでっていうのは決まっていました。
山根：
食洗機、IH、テーブルベンチレーションも。それからオーブン、スチームオーブン。最後まで迷ったのがバキューマーで…でもコロナ期だったので納期が未定になってしまい、国内在庫があったウォーマーに変更されました。結果的には正解だったかもしれません。お皿を温めたり、料理の段取りを考えると、ウォーマーは使いやすいですよね。
N様：
夫も“こっちで良かったね”って言ってます（笑）。外付けでバキューマーはいくらでもあったから、わざわざビルトインである必要はなかったねって言って。ウォーマーのほうが使いやすいですね。
山根：
見た目も変わらないし、むしろ実用性が高いかもしれないですね。
The Details a Husband Insisted On — For the Joy of Cooking
Madre:
It seems your husband’s preferences are very well reflected in the kitchen.
Mrs. N:
Yes. From the start, it was decided that all the appliances would be GAGGENAU.
Yamane:
That included the dishwasher, induction cooktop, table ventilation, oven, and steam oven. The only point of hesitation was the vacuum drawer. However, during the COVID period, delivery dates were uncertain, so in the end it was replaced with a warming drawer that was in stock domestically. Looking back, it may actually have been the better choice. When it comes to warming plates and organizing meal preparation, the warmer is extremely convenient.
Mrs. N:
My husband also says, “This was the right choice after all.” (laughs) Since standalone vacuum machines are readily available, it didn’t really have to be built-in. The warmer has turned out to be far more practical.
Yamane:
And visually, there’s no difference. In fact, it might even be the more functional solution.
“体感”から逆算した高さ設計
Madre：
キッチンの高さも、ご主人に合わせて？
N様：
そうなんです。建築前にニセコのコンドミニアムに泊まったんですけど、キッチンが快適で。彼が100均でメジャーを買ってきて、全部測って記録して。泊まった数日間は、レストランにも行かずずっと部屋で料理してました（笑）
山根：
915mmでしたよね。一般的にはちょっと高めだけど、ご主人にはぴったりだったんです。料理が好きな人にとって、道具やキッチンがいかに身体に合っているかはとても大切なので、そうやってコンドミニアムでぴったりのサイズを見つけられていたのは、私たちにとってもありがたかったです。
Designing Height, Calculated Backward from “Experience”
Madre:
Was the kitchen height also tailored to your husband?
Mrs. N:
Yes. Before construction began, we stayed at a condominium in Niseko, and the kitchen there was so comfortable. My husband even went out to buy a tape measure at a 100-yen shop and measured everything, taking notes. During our stay, we didn’t go to any restaurants—we just cooked in the room the whole time. (laughs)
Yamane:
It was 915mm, if I recall correctly. A little higher than average, but it suited him perfectly. For someone who truly loves cooking, having tools and a kitchen that fit their body is essential. So the fact that he discovered the ideal size during that stay was also extremely helpful for us in the design process.
”理想のキッチン”に至るまでには小さなトラブルも
Madre：
キッチンが完成して初めて見たときどんなお気持ちでしたか？
N様：
初めて見たとき…まあトラブルがいっぱいあって、たとえば、壁とキッチンの面合わせ。これは施工側の図面が直前で変更されていて、Madreさんに渡した図面には反映されていなくて。
山根：
そう。搬入して、ちゃんと施工する前に一度見てもらったんです。
N様：
私はキッチン搬入の当日“どんな風になってるのかな～”って軽い気持ちで見に行ったんですけど、“なんでここズレているの!?”ってなって（笑）
山根：
でも搬入のその場で確認できたのは本当に良かった。Madreの女性スタッフと職人さんが『今なら動かせます』と迅速に対応してくれて、きれいに納まりました。
N様：
冷蔵庫の色も、メーカー側で真っ白にマイナーチェンジされてたんですよね。冷蔵庫が設置されたときに、搬入時に『あれ？色なんか違うんじゃないかな～』と思っていたら、山根さんが気づいて、その場でシート貼りの手配をしてくれました。
山根：
周囲の化粧板のオフホワイト色に合わせて発注したはずなのに、明るい白になってしまっていたんです。それで私が『Nさん、これちょっと白すぎるから、ちょっとシート貼っていいですか』って言って。
N様：
もうその場で全部手配してくれたので早かったですね。
山根：
その２つはね、ちょっと私も心臓止まるかと思った(笑)。あと照明の件もありましたね。私たちは加工だけして電気屋さんにお渡ししていたんですが、希望がうまく伝わってなかったようなんです。食器棚の中にドットタイプの照明がついてしまったんですが、すぐにドットレスに交換していただけました。
N様：
LED照明にもドットとドットレスがあるっていうのを、私は知らなくて。結果的には、いずれもすぐに対応してもらったので、良かったです。
Even on the Path to the “Ideal Kitchen,” Small Troubles Arose
Madre:
How did you feel when you first saw the completed kitchen?
Mrs. N:
When I first saw it… well, there were actually a few issues. For example, the alignment between the wall and the kitchen. The contractor’s drawings had been changed at the last minute, but those updates hadn’t been reflected in the plans sent to Madre.
Yamane:
That’s right. Before full installation began, we arranged for you to see everything once the kitchen was brought in.
Mrs. N:
On the day of delivery, I dropped by thinking casually, “I wonder how it looks now,” but then I suddenly thought, “Why is this misaligned!?” (laughs)
Yamane:
But it was really fortunate that we caught it right on the spot. Madre’s female staff member and the craftsmen immediately said, “We can still move this now,” and they adjusted it quickly so everything fit perfectly.
Mrs. N:
There was also the refrigerator—the manufacturer had made a minor change, and the color had become pure white. When it was installed, I thought, “Hmm, doesn’t this look a little different?” and Mr. Yamane noticed it right away. He immediately arranged for it to be covered with a matching sheet.
Yamane:
Yes, we had ordered it in an off-white tone to match the surrounding panels, but it arrived in a brighter white. So I said, “Mrs. N, this looks a bit too stark—may I have a sheet applied?”
Mrs. N:
Everything was arranged on the spot, so it was resolved very quickly.
Yamane:
Those two incidents nearly gave me a heart attack! (laughs) And then there was also the lighting issue. We had completed the processing and passed it to the electrician, but apparently the request wasn’t fully communicated. Dot-type lighting was installed in the cabinet, but it was soon replaced with dotless fixtures.
Mrs. N:
I hadn’t even known there was such a distinction between dot and dotless LEDs. In the end, each issue was taken care of promptly, so it all worked out well.
”完璧な”キッチンが完成
Madre：
お引き渡しのときには、どんなお気持ちでしたか？
N様：
もう、“完璧！”って思いました。完成形は本当にまさにイメージ通りに完璧にできあがりました。お友達からも“ホテルみたい！”って言われます。非日常感がありながらも、ちゃんと使いやすいって。もちろん主人もすごく使いやすいって言ってますよ。
山根：
ご満足いただけて私たちも本当に良かったです。でも、しばらく使ってみて敢えて言うなら、”ここをこうしておけばよかった”っていうのはありますか？
N様：
うーん、なんだろう。あんまり良すぎてもね、みんな信じないかもしれないからね(笑)
山根：
そうそう(笑)。なければないでいいんですが。
N様：
敢えて言えば、シンクの中をバイブレにすれば良かったかな～…
山根：
今はヘアライン仕上げですが、バイブレーション仕上げにするともう少しマットな感じになりますね。なるほど。
N様：
そう。バイブレだったら傷とか汚れが落ちやすかったのかなって思います。でも、敢えて探せば、ですね。
A “Perfect” Kitchen Completed
Madre:
How did you feel at the time of handover?
Mrs. N:
I thought, “Perfect!” The finished kitchen turned out exactly as I had imagined—truly perfect. Friends who have visited say, “It feels like a hotel!” It carries a sense of the extraordinary, yet remains highly practical. Of course, my husband also says it’s wonderfully easy to use.
Yamane:
We’re truly delighted to hear that. But after using it for some time, if you had to say, is there anything you might have done differently?
Mrs. N:
Hmm, let me think. If I say everything is too good, people might not believe me. (laughs)
Yamane:
Exactly. (laughs) And if there’s nothing, that’s perfectly fine too.
Mrs. N:
If I really had to point something out, perhaps I should have chosen a vibration finish for the sink…
Yamane:
At present it’s a hairline finish, but with a vibration finish it would have a slightly more matte appearance. I see what you mean.
Mrs. N:
Yes. With the vibration finish, scratches and marks might have been less noticeable and easier to clean. But honestly, that’s only if I go out of my way to find something.
Madreってどんな会社でしたか？
Madre：
一緒にキッチンづくりをしてみて、Madreって、どんな会社でしたか？
N様：
とにかく“寄り添ってくれる”感じがしました。”最後まで一緒にいいものを作り上げよう”っていう気持ちが強くて、施主に寄り添ってくれました。
山根：
……その言葉が、一番うれしいです！
Madre：

What Kind of Company is Madre?
Madre:
After creating your kitchen together, how would you describe Madre as a company?
Mrs. N:
Above all, I felt a true sense of “being supported.” There was a strong spirit of “let’s create something wonderful together, right to the very end,” and I always felt that they stood closely by our side throughout the process.
Yamane:
…Those words mean more to me than anything.
Madre:
